Libudon National High School, formerly named as Libudon Barangay High School was established as an institution on July 29, 1969 through Barangay Resolution and started its operation during SY 1968-1969. For ten years, the school has its funding from the local source and later, was being subsidized by the government and barangay officials on a 60/40 equity intended for the salary of the teachers.
To be able to raise funds, the school resorted to different activities such as having benefit dance for the public, film showing, etc., just to be able to source out funding for the need of the school. Students were accommodated in one of the rooms of the elementary school since there was no available building yet for the secondary.
In 1965, the school produced the first batch of ten graduates. Since then, enrolment for the succeeding years increased hence, some classes were held in the barangay hall and even in some kiosks. It was in 1988 that the school was awarded a two-room Marcos or Gabaldon type of building constructed in the barangay compound since there was no available site yet for the school, then another four classrooms and additional five classrooms again were built sometime 2004 till 2012, henceforth, all classes then held in the owned school site.
Through the years, the school continues to serve its clientele, catering six feeder schools coming from its neighboring sitios and barangays. History speaks how the school endured difficulties but was able to survive all the trials and hardships just to make a difference from what it was before at the start.
At present, it still continue to strive hard just to be able to attain the best improvement for the school hence, there is a need for more intensive efforts to make it fully developed and thus would become stable in the future and continuously adapt to its changing word of the existence of the new generation.
All the triumphs and accomplishments of the school possessed and will be having more in the future depends on how the School-Community People, the Process Owners unite and respond to the challenge hence, School Improvement Plan is an important aspect to consider.
Libudon National High School is situated in a rural area which is more or less twenty five (25) kilometers far from the Division Office. In going to this place, one may commute by means of a 4-wheeled vehicle or hired motorcycle from the main road with a fare of Php 60.00 per trip and a total of Php 120.00 back and forth. In reaching the cemented main road, another Php 40.00 is spent going to the division office.
If you have your own private car, you may spend Php 200.00 a day for your gasoline going to the city proper. Along the way, one could experience passing very slippery road if there is a heavy rain or too much dust when the sun strikes hot, hence uniforms are dirty upon reaching the destination.
The school itself is blessed with a very spacious place with a 10,000 square-meter titled lot, there are about thirteen (13) coconut trees inside and outside its premises with big one hundred seven (107) Mahogany trees planted beautifully in two rows at the side of the fence.
However, since these trees pose danger to the students and teachers who are frequent passers of this area, the School Head, Jonelita P. Patis, who is just newly designated as the Teacher-Incharge, (June 13, 2016 to be exact) immediately acted upon the cutting of these threatening trees after following the protocols with the Philippine Coconut Authorities and Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Furthermore, the big vacant space is very much available for the forthcoming construction of new buildings and one special request sent to the Office of the Congressman, Hon. Joel Mayo Z. Almario, for the Covered Court or Activity Center.
On its 47th existence, the school has one dilapidated old building which needs to be demolished soon (this has been reported to the right authorities), no safe place for the canteen, electrical connection is questionable for it does not follow the Standard Electrical Wiring Procedure, no potable water which obviously defer the DepEd’s dream of proper hygiene and sanitation among students, no functional toilets due to insufficient water supply, hence students would oftentimes ask permission from the office to go home just to respond to the call of nature, no administrative office, no faculty room, no library and not even a building for the Senior High School when in fact, there is a permit to offer such additional two grade levels. At present, one section of the Senior High is housed in the old building owned by the barangay with no proper ventilation and lighting.
As to the learning environment, the millennium goal of providing students with the 21st Century Skills are obviously at-risk because, the school has no CompLab, at present the nine (9) computer units are still to be repaired/cleaned and the borrowed room for the storage of the computers should further be repaired/secured through having its window with grills and rehabilitate electrical connection. On record, Grade 10 students who transferred to a certain school in Mati as Grade 11 SHS had withdrawn their enrolment from the new school for the reason that they could not cope up with the using of computers in their class since they are not computer literate.
As to the extra and co-curricular activities, the school would usually ask permission from the barangay council to have their events be held at the activity center located nearby, however, there are times that the activities of the barangay and elementary school (who are frequent users) are scheduled simultaneously, hence the Libudon NHS oftentimes give-way to them, therefore, events are held inside the school with no stage. This situation brings discomfort to the students and they could not grasp the objectives since the tendency of roaming or loitering may happen or they may instead stay inside their room without anything to do. Obviously because they will be exposed to the heat of the sun, standing all throughout the program, etc.
The good side in here, is the positive support of the barangay whenever their attention is called for some urgent request. Other private persons residing in this area have also shown their cooperation for some educational programs of the school such as the Adopt-a-Child and financial assistance for some activities. PTA community, as well, is a potential arm of the administration in achieving development plans for this school.
With regards to teachers, there are about sixteen competent and hardworking teaching force under one School Head with two (2) watchmen assigned in the morning and the other in the evening. Just recently, one utility is hired after consulting the Division Auditor of its possibility, for the purpose of maintaining the cleanliness of the area day and night and further, be an urgent errand during Saturday or Sunday for some assistance whenever there is a need of it especially if there are minor repairs done in the school.
